My Spiritual Journey: Part One

Having spent 11 days in Peru this year, on a leadership retreat, I thought you might be interested in some of my reflections for your own life journey. This quote is most apt: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” –Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

The leadership retreat that I attended in Peru was hosted by two of my podcast guests Steven Kuhn (156) and Lane Belone (167). I share my experience in more detail in the upcoming Episode 222 with Steven. So previously, as someone who served 20 years as a British Army Officer, to talk about anything spiritual would appear “woo woo” and lead to lots of ridicule from my fellow officers in the Officers’ Mess.

Now having spent 22 years in business and learning to be much more comfortable with vulnerability and understanding my authentic self, improving my emotional and social intelligence and understanding what my personality is like, it’s so much easier to see myself as a spiritual being. What about you how comfortable are you thinking about more than just physical and intellectual aspects of your ‘Quadrinity” as they talk about on the Hoffman process? Do you understand the other two quadrants of your emotional and spiritual being? If you ignore those aspects, you are in danger of being half a man or half a woman or certainly half yourself.

The attached photograph of Lane, Steven and myself shows how 3 ex-military servicemen: 1 x British Army and 2 x American can go to a highly spiritual place like Macha Picchu and take away so much self-learning and self-awareness for the rest of their life. In particular the plant-based medicine ceremonies with Ayahuasca and San Pedro are journeys into your spirit and soul. Not for the feint hearted I can say!

Listen to the Podcast and decide if getting more spiritual is for you. The episode goes live on Tuesday 9th August. You can find it here or wherever you get your podcasts.
