Discipline is DestinyBook Review by Jonathan Bowman-Perks

Discipline is Destiny. I found the Stoic philosophy interpreted by Ryan holiday to be life enhancing. I have listened to many of his books especially:
The daily stoic which I’ve listened to many times,
Ego is the enemy,
The obstacle is the way and
Courage is key to name but a few.

His latest book has stories of historical figures such as Lou Gehrig, Queen Elizabeth II, boxer Floyd Patterson, and Marcus Aurelius, as well as the cautionary tales of Napoleon, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Babe Ruth.

It is divided into three parts:

Part I: The Exterior (The Body)

Part II: The Inner Domain (The Temperament)

Part III: The Magisterial (The Soul)

As another reviewer said – Who couldn’t use a little temperance, moderation, and self discipline in their lives. I think it’s a very important virtue to have in todays society, where drugs and alcohol, and numerous other vices are lurking around every corner. If you are not in control or you own urges, emotions, habits who is?

I have found that now I have a more self-disciplined stoic life, Im no saint yet I am more in control of my own thoughts and actions. Also, having given up alcohol and having a great daily routine for health and fitness this book resonates strongly. I learnt much and reflected on a lot – I hope you do too
