Lives of the Stoics: The Art of Living from Zeno to Marcus Aurelius – by Ryan HolidayBook Review by Jonathan Bowman-Perks

I’ve become a big fan of Ryan Holiday’s books from:

the Daily Stoic,

the Obstacle is the Way,

Ego is the Enemy.

They all provide sound practical advice. This one brings together the historical threads of various influential Stoics with some unusual facts about their life and their main philosophical and moral principles. What was quite refreshing was they none of them were godlike beings they’re all human like us with their feelings and coming short with their rhetoric versus the reality of the lives they lived. You have my old favourites of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus but some also little-known Stoics and their contributions to thinking today from their lives in Greece, the Roman Empire and around the Mediterranean.

My preference as always was the audiobook
