“Culture is the people you hire” says Josh Hug, Co-founder of Remitly

Every week, as part of my Inspiring Leadership with Jonathan Bowman-Perks podcast series, I speak with a different guest who offers their insightful wisdom about all things leadership. This series is aimed at inspiring leaders, whatever level you are at. Whether you are starting out in your career, whether you are in a middle-ranking role, or whether you are a CEO or Chairman of a board – there is always something you can learn. This series provides you with the skills, stories, tips and techniques which you can pass on to those you lead, and your teams.

Josh Hug is the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at Remitly. With family living abroad he has experienced the challenge of sending money across boarders first-hand. Prior to co-founding Remitly, Josh co-founded Shelfari, a private social cataloging website, and served as its Chief Executive Officer from May 2006 to August 2008 prior to its acquisition by Amazon. Following the acquisition, Josh continued to lead Shelfari at Amazon.com, Inc. from August 2008 to October 2011. Josh holds a B.S. in Computer Science and B.A. in Mathematics from Whitworth University and serves on its board. Josh resides in Washington State with his wife, Celeste and their four children.
