Never Finished by David GogginsBook Review by Jonathan Bowman-Perks

This is a favourite of mine – and follows my earlier review of “Can’t hurt me” by David Goggins. It was exhausting and yet inspiring just reading it and imagining it. Now his latest book is out and it’s equally raw and powerful. It is recommended reading and with uplifting wisdom again.

This book is described as: How to unshackle your mind and win the war within.

It focusses on “All-in commitment” – not any half-hearted attempts. Success and many admitted failures. Some view David to be the toughest human being and he exudes a gritty primordial force. Much of his success comes from turning his brutal abusive upbringing into his superpower to keep going through phenomenal endurance challenges.

The stories and lessons in this raw, revealing, unflinching memoir offer the listener a blueprint they can use to climb from the bottom of the barrel into a whole new stratosphere that once seemed unattainable. Whether you feel off-course in life, are looking to maximize your potential or drain your soul to break through your so-called glass ceiling, this is the only book you will ever need.

We hear of his abusive father Trueness – as he describes him as a Gangster who abused his wife and children – a violent unpredictable psychopath.

Even David’s Grandfather – who he had to call “Sergeant Jack” was an ex Airforce cook was full f hard lessons. Sergeant Jack was also emotionally distant, hard cold and relentless driven by perfection. He interviews his mother and that was a power explanation about violence against women and girls VWAG, which is at the heart of my wife Leigh Bowman-Perks’ work with her Inspiring Leadership Foundation.

In Never Finished you learn from the former Navy SEAL and ultra-endurance athlete who has gained fame for his incredible feats of physical and mental toughness. In this book, Goggins takes the reader inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

The book is a continuation of Goggins’ previous book, Can’t Hurt Me, and follows a similar format of combining personal memoir with practical advice on how to overcome mental barriers and achieve greatness. It is a raw, revealing, and unflinching memoir that offers a blueprint for anyone looking to maximize their potential or break through their so-called glass ceiling.

One of the key themes of the book is the idea of “All-in commitment.” Goggins is a firm believer in going all-out in everything you do, whether it’s in sports, business, or life in general. He emphasizes the importance of setting audacious goals, pushing through pain and discomfort, and never giving up on yourself.

Another theme of the book is the power of turning adversity into strength. Goggins had a difficult upbringing, marked by poverty, abuse, and racism. But rather than letting these experiences defeat him, he used them as fuel to become stronger, more resilient, and more determined. He encourages readers to do the same, using their own struggles as a source of motivation and inspiration.

Overall, Never Finished is an inspiring and uplifting book that is sure to resonate with anyone who is looking to break through their own mental barriers and achieve greatness. It is a must-read for fans of Goggins’ previous work, as well as anyone who is interested in personal development, self-improvement, and mental toughness. With its powerful lessons and compelling storytelling, it is a book that is sure to leave a lasting impact on its readers.
