Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business, by Gino WickmanBook Review by Jonathan Bowman-Perks

“Traction” by Gino Wickman is a popular business book that outlines a framework for growing and scaling a business. I am grateful to Darrin Jahnel, my guest from Episode 250 who recommended EOS and this book. His highly successful Jahnel Group uses EOS as their Operating System.

I listened to the Audio book on Traction and from it I took away many things. One is the importance of having in the founders of a business – one who is the visionary and a separate person to be the integrator. Also, the importance of being able to delegate and elevate people once there is sufficient trust. The pneumonic GWD is useful – do you have the right people in the right seats on the bus? Did they get it? Did they want it? And can they do it – i.e. do they have the capacity?

The book focuses on strengthening the 6 key components of a business and implementing an Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to achieve traction and sustainable growth.

Strengthening the 6 Key Components of Your Business:

  1. Vision: A clear and compelling vision that everyone in the company understands and is aligned with.
  2. People: Building a strong, accountable, and cohesive team that is right for the company culture and vision.
  3. Data: Making sure that you have the right data to measure performance and make informed decisions.
  4. Issues: Creating a system to identify and solve issues in a timely manner.
  5. Process: Establishing a set of simple, effective, and documented processes that everyone in the company follows.
  6. Traction: Establishing a discipline and accountability throughout the organisation to achieve your vision and goals.
